Nicole Birrell, M.Sc. FAICD, Belgian born and now Australian national Nicole Birrell has over 25 years’ experience in wholesale and investment banking in Australia and the UK and significant board level involvement across the finance, agriculture and information technology sectors.  

Nicole holds a Bachelor of Applied Economics from the University of Antwerp (Belgium) and a Master of Science (International Relations) from London School of Economics & Political Science.  She is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is fluent in Dutch and French, with a working knowledge of German and Spanish.

She has expertise in strategic and operational risk management, financial markets, the grains industry (including international agricultural research management) and not-for-profit or member based organisations.

Nicole is currently a Director of SMS Management & Technology Ltd and Victorian Plantations Corporation as well as Chair of the Board of Trustees of CIMMYT (International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, Mexico). She was formerly a Director of Superpartners Pty Ltd, Wheat Quality Australia Pty Ltd, Queensland Sugar Ltd, Grains Research and Development Corporation and AusBulk Ltd and a Member of Wheat Exports Australia.
